Given these 2 choices, how would your husband describe you? Would he say you are more like a “crown” or like “rot in his bones”? Oh my! Proverbs 12:4 says “An excellent wife is the crown of her husband, but she who brings shame is like rottenness in his bones.” How interesting and convicting! Think about what a crown symbolizes. It implies honor and shines brightly. Hmmm. Let’s ask ourselves some questions. Do you bring your husband honor through your conduct? Do you show respect to your husband?
Now let’s think about the end of this verse which describes a wife whose conduct rots her husband’s bones!! Yikes! When a man’s bones are rotten, he becomes slouched over and can’t stand tall any longer. He doesn’t have the strength to carry heavy loads anymore. Does this describe your man…not so much physically, but emotionally or spiritually?
So how do we become a crown for our husbands as opposed to rot in their bones? Here are a few thoughts directly from the Bible. 1- Seek to obey God (Prov 31:30) 2- Decide to show respect to your husband (Ephesians 5:33) 3- Ask God to help you develop self-control through His Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23) 4- Seek to manage your household efficiently (Proverbs 31:27) 5- Show love and compassion to those in need (Proverbs 31:20).
